Irfan Pathan

Blue Eyed Boy Of Indian Cricket

About

Irfan Pathan's journey from plain poverty to super stardom is the stuff of legends. He began his career as a fast-medium swing and seam bowler and made his national team debut shortly after turning 19, evoking comparisons with Pakistan’s Wasim Akram with his promising performances and prodigious swing.

Having cemented his position in the team he was named by the International Cricket Council as the ‘2004 Emerging Player of the Year’. Pathan was instrumental in India’s One-day international and Test series wins in Pakistan in 2004. He was described by the media as the “blue-eyed boy" of Indian cricket.

Irfan Pathan, along with players such as Vinod Kambli and Laxman Sivaramakrishnan, was included in the list of 'India's lost boys' by Shashi Tharoor.

In early 2006, Pathan became the only bowler to take a test hat-trick in the first over of the match against Pakistan in Karachi. He soon rose to the number two position in the ICC ODI rankings for all-rounders.

Off the field, Pathan was a contestant in the dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa in 2015 and is set to make his acting debut in a Tamil movie Cobra.

Known for his immense work ethics, discipline and ability, Irfan’s biggest achievement does not lie in winning medals or winning fifteen ‘Man of the Match’ awards but in his successful battle against adversities and coming out as a winner.
